Village Homes decision due
A controversial development in Pinner is set to be thrown out - with more than 1,700 people objecting to the plans.
Village Homes, who have already submitted two previous planning applications for the land in Woodpeckers and Eastglade, expect to hear the result of their latest proposal at a planning meeting at the Civic Centre tomorrow (3).
Planning officers have recommending the scheme was rejected.
Since the developers first submitted plans in October last year the company has had two applications turned down as well as two appeals.
Originally they had drawn up proposals for four £1m homes, which were resubmitted as three and now two smaller homes.
But despite the revisions, officers believe the houses would be "excessive in scale and bulk and substantially larger than properties in the vicinity."
Ever since the plans were first submitted protestors across Pinner have campaigned against the development - creating the group Save Pinner Gardens.
They have now gathered 1,712 signatures against the application and were hopeful the latest application would be greeted with yet another refusal.
Speaking before the meeting campaigner Edwin Lucas said: "It's been recommended to be turned down and we are obviously very pleased with that.
"We are still very much against the building of anything on conservation land, the size of the homes and the cost and believe they would be entirely out of keeping with this side of Pinner.
"We have had a lot of support against these plans, which was no mean feat, so we are confident this will be influential in the decision."
The company and a contractor have been fined more than £7,500 for dismembering a protected tree on the site.
Iain Taylor, a spokesman for Village Homes said the firm wasn't optimistic about the meeting's result.
He told the Harrow Observer: "I would suggest that in light of the history of the site this application will go the same way as the previous ones.
"We will have to wait for the inspectors views of course but we will appeal the decision if this was the case.
"Planning is controversial in its nature are people are entitled to their views but we will keep plugging away."
