Nower Hill pupil wins speaking contest
A Nower Hill High School pupil has scooped top prize in the Harrow final of Jack Petchey's Speak Out Challenge.
Emmanuella Odita, 15, from the school in George V Avenue, Pinner, gave a speech on her chosen subject which won her an iPod and the chance to go through to the grand final of the Speak Out Challenge being held in July next year.
The challenge involved 500 year 10 pupils in Harrow who all received a full day of training in public speaking and communication.
Runner up was Ian Thorp, 15, from Park High School and third place went to Harry Woulds, 15, from Nower Hill High School.
Judges included Paul Clark, head of children's services at Harrow Council and the Mayor of Harrow, Councillor John Nickolay.
Winner Emmanuella said: "Public speaking is something that everyone should take up. It will build up your confidence. It makes you a better person because you learn how to speak to strangers as if you have known them all your life."
