Elderly lady who fell over on a bus searches for women who helped walk her home

A GREAT-grandmother who had a nasty fall on a bus after the driver pulled away before she had taken a seat is trying to find the two women who helped walk her home.

Dorothy Myers, of Uxbridge Road, Pinner Green, got on the H12 bus to go home after her weekly trip to Rumours hairdressers, in Marsh Road, Pinner, on October 30.

The 86-year-old said: "I got on the bus and the driver started to go and I just went flying.

"I landed flat on my back and head, but the driver wasn't at all interested in what had happened. Everyone on the bus was screaming at him to stop.

"He came over and just looked down at me and went back and drove on. He should have called an ambulance there and then.

"These two women got me up and I was semi-conscious by then so they kept talking to me to keep me awake. When I got to my stop they got off the bus with me and walked me home.

"I went to Northwick Park Hospital and had x-rays on my back and I've got to have a bone scan at the end of the month.

"I still have terrible pain in my back and hips. Every time I get up they start to ache so all I want to do is lie down and sleep."

However, Mrs Myers says her main concern is finding the two women who helped her.

She said: "I don't know what I would have done if they hadn't been there. I couldn't have walked home by myself.

"I never got their names but they told me they were going to visit someone in a home in Harrow Weald.

"I want them to get in contact with me so I can thank them."

Mrs Myers' son, Peter, reported the incident to Transport for London (TfL) on November 3 and they passed it on to the bus company, Metroline.

He said: "I spoke to Metroline today (Tues) and they told me they had nothing on their system about the incident.

"I want compensation for my mother because she has gone from being really active to almost immobile. She hasn't been out of the house unless I've picked her up."

A Metroline spokesperson said: "Metroline takes the provision of a high quality and safe service for all of its passengers very seriously. We train our drivers extensively to ensure that they follow all safety regulations and to make sure that passengers have time to get a seat or hold on safely before they pull away.

"We will investigate this matter thoroughly."

Help the Aged have also campaigned about the issue of falls on buses and this year the theme of their National Falls Awareness Day, 'Get on Board', brought light to the issue.

We'd like to hear from you.
