Pinner girls take the plunge

Pinner skydivers web.jpgTHREE school friends from Pinner have raised more than £2,000 for a struggling cancer charity by jumping 13,000ft out of an aeroplane.

Daredevil fundraisers Katie Leahey, 24, Jessica Gaspar, 26, and Joanne Wells, 29, were inspired to take the plunge for Lennox Children's Cancer Fund after hearing about the charity's plight.

Lennox launched an emergency appeal this year as it struggled to continue its work providing holidays for children diagnosed with cancer because of financial difficulties brought on by the recession.

When the charity asked Ms Leahey's company Bellaway Homes whether anyone could help by doing a sponsored skydive, the PA literally jumped at the chance and even persuaded businesswoman Ms Gaspar and hairdresser Ms Wells to join her.

Ms Leahey said: "It was absolutely brilliant, I really enjoyed it. I had been scared for the whole build up but on the morning I woke up and couldn't wait.

"The office I work in has this charity that comes in for the 'name the teddy bear' competition but they told us they might have to close down because of the recession and would anyone be able to help.

"I asked my girlfriends and two of them were as crazy as me to do it!"

The trio, who have been friends since attending Nower Hill High School together, have almost doubled their £1,200 fundraising target and their total is still rising. To contribute, click here.
