Every street in Hatch End has a Neighbourhood Champion
EVERY road in Hatch End ward now has a Neighbourhood Champion - locals trained to report low-level nuisance and problems to the authorities and to distribute useful information from them.
It is the second area to reach this achievement after Wealdstone last month became the first of the 21 wards in the borough of Harrow where each street had a person designated to be the 'eyes and ears' of the council and the police and to look out for their and their neighbours' best interests.
There are 1,000 people signed up across the borough to become one of these volunteers although not all have completed the required training.
Councillor Susan Hall (Conservative), leader of Harrow Council's Conservative group, said: "I'm thrilled to bits by this news, both as a member of the administration that launched Neighbourhood Champions, and a Hatch End councillor, and I continue to be overwhelmed by how quickly and thoroughly Neighbourhood Champions have been embraced by Harrow.
"There was some concern over what they would be used for when they were introduced, and even the current leader of the council said he'd spend their funding on other things.
"So it wasn't the easiest of launches, but the hundreds of applicants and Champions trained since then have shown both the value and the popularity of the scheme."
Sergeant Pete Carruthers, who leads Hatch End Safer Neighbourhood Team, told the Observer: "The PCSO whose arranged registering is John-Paul Matthews and he's worked hard all year to secure 100 per cent coverage, which he's finally done, so thanks to him and thanks to all the residents for being publicly supportive."
The current Labour administration has adopted a target of recruiting 2,000 volunteers by March 2012.

It really does'nt make any difference when you report any incidents of anti-social behaviour to the police because nothing ever gets done about it
Who isnt Sick to death of hearing Susan Hall always wanting to take credit for everything? every week she's in the papers slagging other member of the cabinet off and listening to the sound of her own voice. Ms Hall would do better to listen to her people and do as they wish not do as she likes
