Latest Pinner flats plan faces local opposition

RESIDENTS in Pinner have objected to plans for a three-storey block of flats sited opposite the West House museum and art gallery.

The proposals being considered by Harrow Council for the site of the former day nursery at 69 West End Lane include nine flats of one, two and three bedrooms, plus an underground car park and roof-top solar panels.

Neighbour Vivienne Hill told the Observer: "We think it is ugly, it has a flat roof and it would be higher than anything else around here."

Several objections to the plans from new site owners Quebe Ltd have been sent to the council, which will make a decision in July.

In a strongly-worded letter to the council, West End Lane resident Michael Landon said the development would be "completely out of character" with the area.

However, because permission was granted for a two-storey block of six flats on the same site in 2009, the principle of such a building on that site has already been established.

Geoffrey Wheal, planning officer for the Pinner Association, said the new scheme was worse than the one already approved.

He said: "This scheme is 50 per cent larger and it has a very modern design, which doesn't match anything else in the area.

"Having got permission for six flats I don't think they should now be given nine."
