Vince Cable visits Lib Dems in Pinner

Vince CableGOVERNMENT minister Vince Cable championed the work of local candidates at the Harrow Liberal Democrat's annual BBQ in Pinner last Saturday (16).

The business secretary said of Stanmore Park candidate, Sylvia Warshaw: "We have to keep flying the flag everywhere, no matter what the majority. I am very impressed with the work of the candidates in this area."

Harrow council currently only has one Liberal Democrat candidate, Chris Noyce, but members are hoping this will change after the by-elections on July 28.

The member of parliament for Twickenham was quick to remind people that the party only had three per cent of the vote when he was appointed as a candidate over 20 years ago, and said: "I think an enormous amount can change in the next few years."

Although Mr Cable said the party as a whole has had a difficult few months after defeats in the referendum and local elections but he remained positive about its image in the long run.

The annual event was held in the garden of the sixteenth century farm house, East End House, Moss Lane, Pinner and hosted by Owen and Veronica Chamberlain.

Over 70 Liberal Democrats from around Harrow came to listen to the short speech by Mr Cable, in which he addressed the economic crisis, changes to the NHS and the debate on tuition fees.

Chairman of the Harrow Lib Dems, John Skipworth, said he was pleased with the turnout and said the talk by the minister was very useful and well received.
The audience were keen to hear about Mr Cable's involvement in the recent hacking scandal, but all he would say was: "I was right about a few things."
