Grove Estate discusses creation of residents' association
CHILDREN, teenagers, councillors and a team from the council met last Thursday (4) to discuss starting up a residents association in the Grove estate, Pinner.
As part of a community engagement project run by the council over the summer residents of all ages were able to give their views about the possiblity of more youth activities and stronger links between the council and the estate.
Children at the outdoor event on the estate were keen to see more colouring, sports and music activities develop as they said there was very little for them to do at present.
Tyler Wrapson, 9, said: "We need more football. It sometimes gets boring on the estate playing with your friends all the time."
After a similar association was set up in Pinner Hill estate, Pinner, there was a high level of interest and involvement among young pepole and it is hpoed this can be achieved on the Grove estate as well.
There is a hall within the flats which would be used for evening activities for young people.
Although there is a lot of interest from within the youth community in the area for starting sessions, the issue is finding someone who is willing to donate their time to such a cause.
Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Bob Currie said: "I want residents to have a real say in shaping their communities for the future. This roadshow is just one platform we have put in place to do this. By taking the conversation into estates and local neighbourhoods we can encourage feedback and also support residents. Many have already formed tenant and resident associations locally and we are encouraging and facilitating others to do the same. I also hope that these summer events encourage younger residents to get involved."
