The George stands firm

In a joint letter with the licensee Yatin Patel to the Observer he said: "The King George IV public house has been around for many years and we intend for it to remain a part of Pinner's community for many years to come. We will continue to support the residents of Pinner and provide them with the service they deserve, as we know that they will continue to support us."

The manager formerly ran the Hand in Hand pub from 1995 to 2001 and turned it into a landmark in the area. He hopes to do the same for the George and events such as
a Queen tribute music night, an 80's night, quiz nights as well as Sky and ESPN games and reunion nights for the Hand in Hand and the Victory are putting the pub back on the map.

The Marsh Road drinking house attracts a wide range of customers, but the Trevor Clapp of Foundation Architecture Ltd said: "The thinking behind the project is to turn it into a financially viable property".

He added that if the pub was doing well financially then the plans would be reconsidered.
The Campaign for Real Ale's campaigns officer for West Middlesex Brian Lawrence said: "There are a lot of pubs closing nationally at the moment, which is due to the financial crisis. I am very pleased to hear this one is doing well as Pinner only has two other pubs, and it would be a shame if this one closed down."

The manager Paul McEvoy said: "I turned the Hand in Hand round and now that people know I am running this place they are more likely to come in. We are already planning events for next year. The community has said if they do close it down they will start a petition, people don't want to see this place go."
