Shoppers outrage at Sunday parking charge
CAR PARK users in Pinner are being charged for using the free service on a Sunday in Love Lane.
Peter Thatcher, 75, is outraged that the council machines issue tickets on a Sunday in the Marks & Spencer car park in Pinner.
Parking is 80p per hour from Monday to Saturday, but people are putting money into the machine and being issued with tickets on a Sunday, when parking is free.
All three car parks in Pinner are free on a Sunday, but Mr Thatcher, of Birchmead Avenue, said not enough is done to make people aware they should not be paying for parking.
He added: "My wife goes in and does the shopping and I have been watching people who use the car park, some of them go up to it and read it and some of them put money in and get a ticket. I think it is wrong to take advantage of people's mistake and taking money for a service that is free."
He believes the council should put a hood over the machines or turn them off once a week.
Conservative Pinner ward councillor Stephen Wright said: "As long as the signage is clear the individual should take care that they don't put money in the machine on a Sunday when there are no charges. Changing the machines so they do not accept payment on a Sunday would be a costly operation for the council, the majority of people are aware that the charges are not there on Sunday."
