Young Nirvan raises £1000 in one mile swim
A STRONG swimmer from Harrow has raised more than £1,000 after taking part in a national fund raising campaign.
Eight-year-old Nirvan Marathe swam one mile in Hatch End pool as part of the Swimathon Weekend to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and managed to complete the challenge in one hour.
The Quainton Hall pupil, in Hindes Road, Harrow, has so far raised £1,170 for swimming 70 lengths of the pool on Saturday, April 28.
His father, Sangraam, of Sidney Road, Harrow, said: "Nirvan saw the advertisement for the swimathon at the pool and felt motivated to participate and raise money for the cancer charity. We told him that this would require additional training at least twice a week, but he was undeterred."
Nirvan trains every Sunday at the pool with the Aquarius Swim Club and appealed to all his friends, family and parents' work colleagues to raise sponsorship money.
His father added: "We are all very proud of him as he took up this very challenging task all by himself, pushed himself to achieve the target he set and went about achieving it in a dedicated and focused manner for someone so young and all for a wonderful cause."
